Limerick athletes impress as host of events both at home and abroad

County Juvenile Cross Country Relays

TAKING place in Bilboa’s ‘Old Quarry’ ground each participant ran 500m each. Winners were as follows (with team members named where available):
U9 Girls 1 st Dooneen Maia Sherlock, Leila Hughes, Sarah Mullane, Annie Wallace, U9 Boys 1st West Limerick - Eoghan Collins, Oisín Fitzgerald, Seán Óg Fitzgerald, Tomás Sheehy.

U10 Girls 1st West Limerick: Clara Galvin, Fiadh Quaid, Clodagh Cunningham, Emma Sheehy. U10 Boys 1st Limerick AC. U11 Girls 1st Limerick AC. U11 Boys 1st Limerick AC, 2nd Limerick AC, 3rd Dooneen, U13 Girls 1st Limerick AC- Gabrielle O’Neill, Lori McPhail Crea Moore, Rachael Ryan. U13 Boys 1 st Limerick AC – Jack Ryan, Rian Murphy, Patrick Keogh, Tom Keogh, U15 Girls 1 st Dooneen Saoirse Earles, Cara Guinan, Grace O’Brien, Caoilin Crowley, Faye Cusack , U15 Boys 1st Limerick AC- Rian Kiely Keogan, Tadhg Reen, Oisin McGuinness, Killian Coman.

U17 Mixed 1st Dooneen Ruadhan Crowley, Sophie Meaney, Oisin Garvey, Niamh Hynes.

Many athletes were representing their clubs for the first time. Thanks to Bilboa who were excellent hosts, to all coaches and volunteers. Hopefully see many of you again this weekend.

Na Piarsaigh GAA 10K

Beautiful autumn sunshine greeted the return of the Na Piarsaigh GAA Club 10K, which was last held in 2017. Kieran McKeown of Grange Fermoy made the journey from Cork worthwhile as took first place in a time of 35:28. It was a close contest as he was just 7 seconds clear of second-placed Thomas Grimes.

Diarmuid O’Hanlon took third in 35:44. Joe Laffan, son of Limerick AC stalwart Joe Laffan Senior, was fourth in 36:07.

Grace Fitzgerald was a comprehensive winner of the Women’s race in 37:19, 2nd was Geraldine Harnett on 37:39, while Natasha Kelly completed the honours on 37:53, 4th was Adare 10K winner Amy Murphy of West Limerick on 39:27, 5th Ann MacPhail 42:18.

Other times included Ronan Lawlor (Dooneen) 42:30, clubmate Joe Chawke 43:35, Neil O’Connaill (Limerick AC) 43:08, Tommy Madden (Country Club) 47:56, Iosla Breathnach 50:45. Well to done Na Piarsaigh, Just Race.ie and all involved.

Cork Mini Marathon

Over a 6K route along the streets of Cork former Dooneen AC starlet was third in the colours of Leevale in a time of 20:03, Limerick AC’s Susan Murnane was second F50 in a time of 25:28. Well done to all who took part in the North Cork AC Open Cross Country, Karl Lynch was second in the Men’s race.

Abroad

Berlin Marathon

In unseasonably hot conditions Marcella McGrath continued her great year crossing the line at the Brandenburg Gates in 3:37:50. The Bilboa AC trio of Kevin Broughton (3:44:21) Alan Rediy (3:49:14) and Martin Byrne (4:39:37) all produced excellent times in the German capital. Gut gemacht alle.

Fixtures

West Limerick AC and the NCW Showgrounds also host the County Masters and Juvenile Uneven Age on November 9.  West Limerick also host the Masters events with the distance as follows Women 4000m Men 6000m
