Training Tip

Rosemary Ryan focuses on the up-coming Cross Country season.

I think the important thing is that it's pre-season time with XC next up in September/October. Base building focuses on easy paced runs, varying surfaces with up and downhill, grass running and introducing fartlek intervals of steady running to establish a good aerobic base. Enjoy getting the runs in and let fitness build without chasing hard at this point. This can be a good time to run in a group and a chance to run'n'chat”

From Times Past

1920 Paddy Ryan from Old Pallas won the Olympic Hammer tittle for America throwing 173 feet 4inches in Antwerp. He would return to his native Pallasgreen where he farmed until his death in 1964 at the age of 82.

1976 Ronnie Long was Irish team manager at the Montreal Olympics

1904 The Bronze Medal was introduced at the St.Louis Olympics

The 38th Streets of Galway 5 Mile takes place next Saturday. Dooneen’s Ger Clancy is one of just 3 athletes to compete in them all.
