Riverfest has teamed up with style queen Celia Holman-Lee for Fashion Friday which aims to showcase the best of shopping on offer in Limerick city centre.

A special dome will be erected on Thomas Street for the free event which will take place on Friday, May 3.

Two fashion shows showcasing the best of Limerick city fashion will take place on the day while students from a number of secondary schools in Limerick will show off their skills in a stylish spectacle ‘Junk Kouture’ exhibiting wearable art and outrageous couture outfits.

The students attend the Presentation Secondary School, Castletroy College and Colaiste Iosaef in Kilmallock.

Celia Holman-Lee is encouraging people to come along and enjoy themselves while also sampling some of the tasty treats and nibbles from nearby food emporiums while viewing the Summer collections from the city’s top fashion houses.

“There used to a lovely tradition in Limerick that women would come into the city centre on Fridays, meet for a coffee and go shopping,” said Celia who added that Fashion Friday promises to be a great way to kick-start the Riverfest celebrations.

“We have revived this tradition over the past few years by holding an event like Fashion Friday for Riverfest and it has become a tremendous success. It’s also an opportunity for everyone to enjoy themselves and to see the fantastic fashion that’s available in Limerick city stores,” she said.

Fashion Friday will conclude with a live performance by the Savoy Jazz Orchestra at 6:30pm in the Fashion Friday marquee.

Stores and boutiques from across the city will present their summer collections during Fashion Friday and shoes, jewellery and accessories will also feature on the day.

Hair will be by The Hugh Campbell Group and make up will be by Urban Decay at Debenhams.
