A Limerick children’s writer has recently published her first book Monzo’s Tale: Choosing and Vetting which is the first edition in a series of four exciting tales based on the life of a puppy adopted by a new family.
Anne Cashell, from Castletroy, who previously worked as a science teacher in the Presentation Secondary School decided to begin writing as a present for her grandchildren.
“I was always telling my grandchildren stories and I decided to write one down and have it made into a book as a Christmas present for them. When people saw it they said it was a great idea and I should look into publishing it,” explains Anne.
Anne, who has also taught and coordinated childcare programmes in Limerick says the reaction so far has been “fantastic.”
“I had 500 copies published and I have received a great reaction so far,” explains Anne excitedly.
This is the first episode in a four book series which will recount the arrival of a new puppy who has been recently adopted by a loving family. The unique book is also written in rhyme throughout which Anne says, “made things slightly more difficult however it was still a joy to write.”
“We adopted a new dog at home and I thought it would make an interesting story to write about things from his point of view. It’s a taster book for the next three editions which will chart his life with his new family. It’s a ‘dog’s eye view’ of the world and written from his perspective,” explains Anne.
The book which is printed and illustrated in Limerick is available in 20 bookshops in Limerick, Cork, Clare and Galway. The book can be purchased in O’Mahony’s Bookshop, Easons in the Parkway Shopping Centre, The Crescent Bookshop and Newcastle West Bookshop.
