MYSTERY surrounds the identity of a lucky €1 million Limerick Lotto winner who has yet to claim their prize.

MYSTERY surrounds the identity of a lucky €1 million Limerick Lotto winner who has yet to claim their prize.

The mystery winner bought the ticket last Thursday on the city’s northside, with rumours circulating over the last number of days as to the identity of the lucky millionaire in waiting.

The ticket was sold in Centra at Woodview Shopping Centre on the Old Cratloe Road. Speculation is mounting as to who might have scooped the €1m prize, which has yet to be claimed from National Lottery HQ in Dublin.

The top prize in the Lotto’s new Daily Million draw was won by a ticket sold in Rodahan’s Centra last Thursday.

The lucky ticket was a €1.50 Quick Pick and, given the shop’s proximity to Limerick Institute of Technology, the shop’s owners believe it may well have been sold to a student living in the area.

A National Lottery spokesperson confirmed that the ticket had been sold in the shop last Thursday.

“It was Daily Million top prize, which is worth one million euro,” said the spokesperson. “No-one has come forward to claim it yet”.

She added that the lucky ticket holder had 90 days in which to come forward to claim it.

Ger Rodahan, who owns the Centra shop which sold the winning Lotto ticket, said: “We don’t know who bought it and whether they have collected it, nobody has said anything to us”.

“We haven’t a notion (who bought it). It could be a student or it could be a resident, I don’t know now. We have a big student population around us. Nobody has been in to claim it,” he said.

The win is the shop’s first since Mr Rodahan opened it four years ago, and he said that it was “very exciting”.

“We have never sold one before; it is our first one and it is a nice one,” he explained.

“It is exciting. Everyone is talking about it. Everybody is asking about it. It is good fun,” he added.

There have been a number of big Lotto wins in Limerick this year, with an unidentified resident winning nearly €500,000 in the EuroMillions Lottery in March, and Garryowen mum of ten Susan Bailey, who won nearly €900,000 when her numbers came up in the EuroMillions draw around the same time.
