BIRTHDAYS and beauty pageants, they’re all in a weekend’s work for Limerick lady Grace Walsh.

This Friday, the Rhebogue resident celebrates her 22nd birthday, while on Saturday night she will represent her native Limerick at the Miss Ireland contest in Dublin.

“I am nervous but also excited. I’m very happy with my dress,” smiled Grace, who will wear a stunning creation by local designer Caroline Mitchell for the gala event which takes place in the Ballsbridge Hotel.

Grace decided to go with a full-length cream and gold creation after discussing several options with the South Circular Road-based designer, and of course her mum, Anne.

“She tried on a few items I have here. We picked out a few of the different details that she liked and I drew up a sketch for her. We decided on it with the help of her mother,” explained Caroline who has been designing dresses for Miss Limerick over the past decade.

“The front of it is really simple. It looks like a halter-neck and the back has a big cut-out circle with beads. It has a little bit of a train.”

Grace, who was crowned Miss Limerick before a large audience at Crush 87 nightclub in The Granary in May, will also model two cocktail dresses and swimwear over the course of the action-packed Miss Ireland weekend.

Friday, her birthday, sees her head up to Dublin for a national press call.

“I was at the official launch party so I met a few of the girls. I haven’t met them all because at that stage there was only half of us chosen. I am looking forward to meeting the rest of them,” she explained.

“On the Saturday, we do photographs first of all and then you sit down for a meal. You can mingle with the guests and then the competition starts. There is an after-party in Bucks.”

With only limited modelling experience, Grace, a beauty therapist, put her name forward for Miss Limerick after being encouraged to do so.

The blonde beauty who stands a statuesque 5’ 11” is looking forward to making the most of every opportunity that comes her way.
