LIMERICK City and County Council has announced that the theme for Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2026 will be 'Legends of Limerick', celebrating the remarkable people, stories and moments that have shaped the county’s unique identity.

This year’s festival will run from March 13 to March 17 with the Legends of Limerick theme honouring legends past and present - from ancient myths, medieval figures and folklore, to sporting heroes, literary giants, cultural trailblazers and contemporary icons who continue to inspire.

Community groups, cultural organisations, venues, businesses and event producers are now invited to take part in Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2026 by applying to participate in the festival.

As part of this process, the Festivals and Events Section of Limerick Council is issuing an open call for applications for financial support to assist in the delivery of parades and events that will form part of the St Patrick’s Festival programme across Limerick city and county.

Participants are invited to bring Limerick’s rich heritage and vibrant modern spirit to life in a colourful, creative and community-driven celebration.

Limerick Council is preparing to deliver the Limerick City St Patrick’s Day Parade which will, once again, be the centrepiece of the Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2026.

Last year’s parade drew 1,500 participants, while 70,000 spectators packed the city centre, transforming Limerick into a sea of music, colour and joyous celebration.

Become a legend and be part of the fun this year. Whether you want to march, dance, perform or just represent your group or organisation, register now at Limerick.ie.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, commented:

“The St Patrick’s Festival is an opportunity to highlight what makes Limerick truly unique. It was important for us to have agreed this theme nearly 12 months ago, allowing us to plan and organise what will be a special event. The Legends of Limerick theme gives communities a chance to honour the people, stories and achievements that define our county. I encourage groups and organisations to apply and be part of this year’s festival, a proud celebration of place and identity.”

Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery, said:

“The Legends of Limerick theme captures the creativity, resilience and ambition that runs through our communities. This open call supports a diverse range of events right across the city and county, ensuring St Patrick’s Festival continues to be a powerful showcase for Limerick’s cultural life.”

Dr Pat Daly, Director General, Limerick City and County Council, added:

“By supporting projects in communities across the county we are helping to animate our towns and neighbourhoods while celebrating the stories and individuals who have shaped our shared heritage and continue to inspire future generations.”

Funding will be available under the following categories:

Limerick St Patrick’s County Parades Support.

Cultural Institutions / Venues - St. Patrick’s Festival-themed Events.

Other St Patrick’s Festival-themed Events / Creations.

All supported parades and events must take place between March 13 and March 17 2026 and should reflect the spirit of St Patrick’s Festival, celebrating Limerick’s culture, creativity and community through the lens of the Legends of Limerick theme.

Those interested in applying are invited to request an Application Form from the Festivals and Events Section of Limerick Council by contacting via email: festivalsandevents@limerick.ie or telephone on 061 557444.
