A social media post about the pop-up show went out a few days before the actual event reading:
"After selling out shows across Australia, Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap is hitting Fed Square for a free pop-up gig this Labour Day public holiday.
Catch them live for a 30 minute set - a rare chance to see them in action without a ticket, and the perfect way to wrap up your long weekend."
Comments under the screenshot on the Kneecap Reddit page read:
"This gig will be mental - it's such good form that they are putting this on.
I missed out on the ticketed shows and have had little luck getting re-sell tickets for any of the shows in Aus."
Another reads:
"I missed tickets to their three Melbourne gigs. This gives me a chance to finally rock my tricolour balaclava."
What good gesture by the group and the show(judging by social media stories) was in fact mental.
