'An absolute legend' - Viewers praise two 'superstar' guests on RTÉ's Late Late Show

The Late Late Show presented a mixed bunch of guests on Friday night with Ireland Head Coaches Heimir Hallgrímsson and Carla Ward, singer Kate Nash, Music producer Moio as well as the family of missing Icelandic tourist Jón Jónsson. 

For some viewers, however, it was Olympian Daniel Wiffen and CNN senior correspondent Donie O'Sullivan who stole last night's show with their funny and uplifting stories.

The Olympic gold medallist and world champion sat down with Patrick Kielty for the first time since he became an Olympic champion. Daniel looked ahead to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and how he will be going head-to-head with his twin brother Nathan for the first time ever.

The athletic champion told a hilarious story of how his twin brother pretended to be him while in the spectator stand at the Paris Olympics last year to pose with fans, even though Daniel himself was swimming the 10km race that they were watching. 

Viewers have sang Daniel's praise online, saying: "Daniel, what a gent and a champion." The young sports star has been commended online for his outstanding achievements so far and his upbeat attitude, with one person commenting: "A superstar and an amazing young man."

Sharing the praise from Friday night's episode, CNN star Donie O'Sullivan made a great impression with viewers. When Kielty asked the journalist what he thought of Taoiseach Micheál Martin's visit to the White House for St Patrick's Day to meet Trump, Donie laughed: "God love him! Poor Micheál." He joked that the Taoiseach "should maybe have a sick day."

The interview was a big hit on social media, with viewers hailing it a "great interview." One person wrote: "Donie is an absolute legend and a brilliant broadcaster. Fair dues to him for making a great career for himself in the States." Others even said they were laughing at Donie's own infectious laugh. 

Meanwhile, the family of missing Icelandic tourist Jón Jónsson who went missing in Dublin in 2019 gave a powerful interview to appeal to the public for their help. Jón’s mother Hanna, his sister Anna Hildur and brother David also discussed the new podcast 'Where is Jón' which has been produced by RTÉ and Icelandic broadcaster RÚV in cooperation with the family to help keep the case alive.
