Limerick man released new Celtic Rock history collection, As I Roved Out

John O’Regan

HERE is some very exciting news for discerning music fans. A three CD compilation that has catalogued and collated the Story of Celtic Rock (1968-1978) has been lovingly put together by Limerick man, John O’Regan. It was released on June 21, in the UK on Cherry Red Records and has been well received in the media.
As I Roved Out is the title of this important work. It has 51 tracks, a 21-page booklet, and extensive introduction and biographical notes. The package traces the development of Celtic Rock in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany and acknowledges the influence of the British Folk revival and Folk Rock boom.
It features tracks from Irish artists like Rory Gallagher, Skid Row, The Woods Band, Mushroom, Jonathan Kelly, David McWilliams, and Mellow Candle, and rare album tracks and singles from Cromwell, Peggy's Leg, and Keltic Wine.
It has all the best-known Folk Rock names from the UK: Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Shelagh McDonald, Archie Fisher, and The JSD Band from Scotland with Britany's Dan ArBraz also featured.
The three CD compilation takes a deep dive into a much overlooked but key sub-genre of 1960s-1970s rock.
It is the first comprehensive overview of this important stylistic off-shoot.
