Memories – 50 years – Three ward system called for

POLITICS

THE controversy over the Ward system is now one of the main topics of conversation throughout the city and it is expected to grow. There are two camps, one which favours the four seat system and the other, which favours three seat Wards.

City Council is sharply divided on the issue and has already rejected the Minister’s proposal for the four seat areas. For the first time since 1934, the electorate will be asked to exercise the franchise under the Ward system. The Minister has already made a draft order dividing the city into four Wards.
