MOST Rev Dr Daniel Mannix, aged 99 years, the Irish-born Archbishop of Melbourne for 50 years, has died.

MOST Rev Dr Daniel Mannix, aged 99 years, the Irish-born Archbishop of Melbourne for 50 years, has died.

He collapsed in his home “Raheen” yesterday and died this morning. He was a native of Charleville, County Cork.

He would have celebrated his 100th birthday on March 4 next and in 1962 celebrated the golden jubilee of his appointment. To mark that occasion, he was presented with a replica of the Cross of Cong.
