OFFICIALS at Shannon say they know nothing about rumours of an upcoming visit by US President, George W Bush, to the airport later this year.
Responding to the rumour that Mr Bush would be stopping over at Shannon this June for the EU-US summit in Ireland, a senior official said that it was all “speculation”.
A Government spokesperson has said that work has begun on the arrangements for the Bush visit, but cautioned: “With the security situation as it is, we cannot take anything for granted.”
It is believed that the Americans have ruled out Mr Bush flying to Dublin and instead he will fly into Shannon - despite the well publicised series of anti-war protests that are planned at the airport.
Shannon Airport has a history of Presidential visits.
