GARDAI in Limerick today launched a full murder hunt after the body of a man was found in a ditch in the city.

GARDAI in Limerick today launched a full murder hunt after the body of a man was found in a ditch in the city.

It is understood that the hands and feet of the dead man were tightly bound and that he was fully clothed.

The 26 year old was found face down in Barry’s Field, Southill, with what appear to be gunshot wounds to the head, shortly after 10am.

“At present we are trying to make contact with next of kin and can make no further comment on the matter,” said a Garda spokesman.

A man at the scene said: “I think it’s my cousin and the word here is that he was hung and shot.”

Gardai sealed off the area around Barry’s Field, which is on the main Fedamore Road at the top of Southill.

The state pathologist’s office is being contacted to travel to the scene.
