Thousands of people eligible for Govt heating payments amid cold snap
Artic weather brings with it a reminder of monetary supports available
In light of the freezing cold weather which this new year brought with it, the Government have once again reminded people of a range of supports to reduce energy costs.
These include monetary allowances which people can apply for/check their eligibility for here.
Among the supports available are three electricity credits of €150, applied to domestic electricity billing cycles in winter, the new year and in spring.
Another is the fuel allowance, available to those aged 70 or over, or getting long-term social welfare payments.
An additional needs payment is available to a person who has essential expenses that they cannot afford to pay from their weekly income. This is a means tested payment and is administered by the Department of Social Protection’s Community Welfare Service.
In addition, other cost of living supports are also available from the Department of Social Protection, as well as the housing aid for older people scheme.
This is available to assist older people living in poor housing conditions to have necessary repairs or improvements carried out. The scheme is administered by local authorities.
