Pay rises for politicians and public servants to take effect from next week

POLITICIANS and public servants are set to receive a pay rise in the coming days as part of a long-standing agreement, it has been confirmed.
Increases of over €1,500 per year are due to be paid to TDs, while public servants, senators and ministers will also receive a higher pay-packet from Sunday, October 1.
The new basic salary for TDs is going to rise to €108,986 under the Building Momentum public sector pay deal for 2022-2023.
The Taoiseach and Tánaiste and other government ministers will also be entitled to increases in their salaries under the agreement.
However, some, including Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, have previously stated that they will be waiving and pay rises.
The Taoiseach's and Tánaiste's pay packets will rise to over €233,000 and €215,000 respectively from October 1 while TDs will be paid more than ever before.
These salary increases include public servants, who have already seen pay rises this year and last year: 3% in February 2022, a further 2% in March, 2023 and now 1.5% or €750 — whichever is greater — on October 1.
These increases are applied to all public service staff and are part of the pay restoration after the cuts made during the financial crisis.
Members or officeholders may choose to waive the receipt of some salary or allowances and from 2020, Cabinet members and ministers of state now gift 10% of their salaries to the State on an annual basis.
Earlier this year, the annual salary for senators increased from €73,726 to €75,201. From Sunday, it will rise to €76,329.
