Workers at 11 of Germany's busiest airports are set to go on strike this week

Irish people intending to travel to or from Germany this week could face significant disruptions to their flights due to a planned workers strike at 11 of its commercial airports.

Over 20,000 workers are expected to go on strike over pay conditions on Monday, 10 March at airports in Munich, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, Frankfurt/Main, Dortmund, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin-Brandenburg and Leipzig/Halle.

The trade union Verdi have announced the strike wherein essential employees responsible for baggage, security and other critical services will not attend work.

This is set to cause widespread disruptions for travellers this week, with cancellations and delays anticipated. It is estimated that over 510,000 people would be impacted and more than 3,400 flights cancelled.

Under EU law, Irish passengers travelling to or from the airports affected by the strikes are entitled to receive a full refund or an offer of alternative transport.
