Gardai to ‘pop-up’ at marts and in Limerick communities

GARDAI will be at two Limerick marts and a co-op store next week as part of National Community Engagement Week.
Its objective is to increase community engagement and community reassurance throughout Ireland. Traditionally, the event has been held over the course of one day, however, in 2023 it will run for five days from Monday, May 22 to Friday, May 26.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson, who is based in Bruff, said An Garda Siochana, in conjunction with other agency stakeholders of the National Rural Safety Forum, will be holding pop up information stands in areas around the Limerick County Community Engagement area.
“Themes will focus on areas including but not limited to crime prevention, road safety, farm and rural safety. These pop-ups are an ideal opportunity to meet local garda members to discuss local issues,” said Insp Thompson.
Gardai will be at Kilmallock Mart on Monday, May 22 from 11am for two hours with a focus on farm safety; Dromcollogher Mart on Thursday, May 25 at 10am for two hours and Dairygold Co-op store in Old Pallas on Friday, May 26 at 11am for two hours.
Insp Thompson said in conjunction with, and thanks to Limerick City and County Council, a property marker will be available in Kilmallock and Dromcollogher Marts and the Dairygold Co-Op store in Old Pallas.
“This will provide a great opportunity for folk to have valuable items marked such as trailers, power washers, tools etc,” said Insp Thompson.
The garda inspector said all are welcome to come up to gardai, have a chat and ask any questions they may have in a relaxed and friendly environment.
There are a number of other garda pop-ups happening around the county next week.
Officers will be in Newcastle West on Monday, May 22 at 11am for two hours; Abbeyfeale on Tuesday, May 23 at 10am for two hours; Newcastle West again on Wednesday, May 24 at 11am; SuperValu in Askeaton on Friday, May 26 for two hours; EuroSpar in Bruff on Monday, May 22 at 10am for an hour; Kilmallock on Tuesday, May 23 at 9am for an hour on road safety; SuperValu in Kilmallock on Wednesday, May 24 at 10am for an hour and Centra in Pallasgreen on Thursday, May 25 at 10am for an hour.
Insp Thompson said gardai will be there to help in any way they can.
