THE four-day Mr Binman Limerick Christmas Racing Festival, expected to attract up to 40,000 racegoers, has been launched at Greenmount Park.

The annual festival, which is the biggest gathering outside of Dublin across the Christmas season, takes place from St Stephen’s Day until Saturday, December 29.

Limerick Racecourse will stage the only Grade 1 race to be run in Munster with the recent announcement that the St Stephen’s Day feature race, the Matchbook Betting Exchange Grade 1 Novice Chase, has been upgraded.

The 2 miles and 3½ furlong contest, has been won by subsequent Grade 1 winners Sir Des Champs, Gilgamboa, Outlander and Bellshill in recent years.

The feature race on each of the four days of the festival will be televised live on RTE. For further information on the Festival, contact Limerick Racecourse on 061-320000.
