Boost for Limerick communities as council agrees lease extension for playgrounds

The development will be welcomed by locals in Rathkeale and Foynes
TWO community organisations in County Limerick have received a boost with confirmation that the local authority intends to extend leases for lands which are currently used as playgrounds.
Elected members of the Adare – Rathkeale Municipal District noted the plans to enter into 30-year lease agreements for council-owned lands in Rathkeale and Foynes.
The proposed extension of the current lease agreements came before them at their July meeting and will now come before the full council in September.
According to a briefing document prepared by Jayne Leahy, head of property services, the Rathkeale Community Playground – at St. Mary’s Park Estate in the town – has been operating as a “key recreational facility” serving local families and young people for more than a decade, since the original lease was signed in November 2011.
The lease relating to Foynes Community Playground was signed on August 1, 2010.
"Since its establishment, the playground has proven to be a valuable asset to the local community, providing a safe, inclusive, and accessible space for children to play, socialise, and engage in outdoor activity. It has supported community wellbeing, encouraged outdoor recreation, and contributed to the wider social and environmental enhancement of the area,” wrote Ms Leahy.
