ALTHOUGH Limerick does not have an entrant in the Rose of Tralee finals, the city will welcome the lucky girls competing in the Dome.

As part of the Rose of Tralee’s tour of Ireland, they will stop off at the Maldron Hotel next Thursday, August 14.

A red carpet will be rolled out, and their escorts will be waiting when they arrive just days before the Rose of Tralee International Festival kicks off in Kerry.

Rose of Tralee commercial manager Steve Cronly said: “It is fitting that an iconic event, such as the Rose of Tralee, should visit Ireland’s City of Culture as part of the Rose Tour. The Rose Tour is a very important event on the Irish tourism calendar as the media coverage that it commands is the perfect picture postcard to send to the world. There is no other festival in Ireland that offers such an insight to so many parts of Ireland en route to the main hub of the entertainment in Tralee.”

He paid tribute to management and staff at the Maldron Hotel in Limerick.

The finalists in the Rose of Tralee will also visit a number of other towns and cities including Dublin, Newbridge, Strokestown, Carrick-on-Shannon and Athlone.

For the seventh year in a row, Limerick’s Rose failed to make it to the final of the showpiece competition.

Dawn Ryan, 21, from Meelick, was picked as Limerick’s Rose.

But the care worker sadly did not get through the qualifying stages.

Limerick’s last representative at the Dome was Melanie Carroll back in 2007.

The last time Limerick won was with Muirne Hurley in 1994.
