A SELECTION of the most beautiful sights from across the county have been captured in a new charity calendar.
The Limerick and District Photographic Society have once again released a calendar showcasing some of the best pictures its members have taken from across the last year.
In next year’s calendar - just released - images captured include The Black Bridge, set against a dusky sky near UL, a view of the King’s Island, and the sun setting over the River Shannon.
Club secretary John Grimes said club members are each year asked to select four images each, with the best 12 reproduced for the calendar.
A different charity benefits each year from the proceeds of the calendar sales.
Last year, the society raised €500 for autism charity Dochas.
But this year it is all changed: While in previous years, a ballot has taken place for the charity members want to benefit, this year, the names of six charities will be put in a hat, and the winning charity drawn out.
John says this is in the interests of being “fair and transparent”, with the charity to be known next Wednesday evening.
“We have always picked a charity, and there was always members who felt others more deserving, so there has been bickering. This makes it more fair and transparent,” he explained.
The calendar is currently on sale in Gleeson’s Spar shops in Castletroy, Catherine Street, and Henry Street, as well as Ivan’s in Caherdavin.
John says more than 100 have sold already, to people abroad, keen to get their hands on a copy.
Eight hundred calendars have been printed, and John hopes they will all go.
The Limerick and District Photographic Society meets every other Wednesday at the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel. It aims to give keen photographers a chance to network and showcase their work.
New members are always welcome.
