SHOWTIME Cinemas on the Ennis Road are to play host to a special premiere of the new Batman movie this Saturday.

The cinema are hosting a premiere screening of the Dark Knight Rises to celebrate the involvement of local actor Kevin Kiely in the Hollywood event of the year, which opens this Friday around the world.

The screening, in Showtime’s ‘luxury’ cinema, will host 70 of Kiely’s family and friends to see the actor on the big screen.

Kiely, from Woodlawn Park on the Ballysimon Road, has a role in the Christopher Nolan smash, understood to be as a thug who squares off against Christian Bale’s Batman during the film.

The Limerick actor, who is based in London and is also set to appear alongside Brad Pitt in the still-in-development World War Z, was remaining tight lipped about his involvement in the film when he spoke to the Limerick Chronicle this week.

“I am excited. It is very strange, the concept of anywhere I have ever been on holidays showing this movie, the weight of that is just unbelievable and to be involved with the picture,” said Kevin.

“Grasping the logistics of delivering that film all around the world is phenomenal, just brilliant,” he added, saying his role in the film was a “fantastic experience”.

“I survived the process and the film survived me. It has been enormously beneficial - I went to the set not knowing everything. I had my film training from drama school and I went and did it and I lucked out so to speak, so it is good,” added Kiely, who graduated from the prestigious Guildford School of Acting in August 2009.

Showtime Cinema’s marketing manager Colm Healy said: “We are very happy to be able to host the show for them and are very happy that things are working out well for Kevin. We are really happy to do it”.

Healy added that he expected the movie to be “definitely the biggest block buster of the year” and said advance bookings were “very strong”.
