LIMERICK City of Culture is to unveil a brochure listing the specific events taking place as part of the official programme this week.
The move comes as the official website for the year of culture has been the subject of criticism in recent days for including events taking place outside of the remit of the year, including those which have not received support or funding from it.
A preview programme listing a selection of City of Culture events was launched amid much fanfare on November 4 last year, but was low on specific detail, lacking dates and times for many events.
That is to be corrected this week, with the project to publish an official programme on a quarterly basis, the first of which is due this week.
“Only events/organisations officially supported by Limerick National City of Culture 2014 will feature in this brochure,” said a spokesperson.
Reports at the weekend focussed on the fact that events taking place in Limerick, many unconnected to the project, had been included on the official LimerickCityofCulture.ie site.
The spokesperson said: “We are happy to promote events other than those officially supported by Limerick City of Culture on our website, which will be the go-to online platform for vast numbers of people interested in knowing what is on in this area in Limerick in 2014.
“Any organisations who have an event or are putting on performances this year who wish to be included on our website can apply by filling out the form on our homepage and returning it to us.
“Likewise, if there is an organisation already featured on our website that does not wish to avail of this promotional opportunity, we would ask that they contact us and we will rectify the matter immediately.”
A tender process has begun in the last week for the management of a box office to oversee ticket sales for the many events taking place in 2014.
