LIMERICK chamber choir Ancór will host its annual Christmas concert in the candle-lit surrounds of St Mary’s Cathedral next Wednesday, December 19.
The award-winning choir, under musical director Cecilia Madden will perform a selection of popular carols in addition to choral works by Rutter and Luridsen. To add to the festive atmosphere, there will be mulled wine and mince pies for all.
The choir was established five years ago and has performed extensively at many settings and events including EV+A, and the ever-popular Proms concertas - performing with world renowned soprano Regina Nathan - as well as a number of charity events.
Ancór has also received many awards including Best Limerick Choir at the Limerick Festival of Church Music in 2009 and also the Albatross Trophy for Chamber Music, New Ross, while 2010 saw a prestigious addition to Ancor’s Hall of Fame when the choir was awarded the Whitten-Haslam trophy for Sacred Music at the 2010 AIMS Choral Music Festival in New Ross.
The concert starts at 8pm and tickets, costing €10, are available from St. Mary’s Cathedral or online at Ancor and a booking fee applies.
