Every year, the Christmas lights at Tony Noonan's house at Tullig North, Templeglantine, draw crowds of hundreds from all over Limerick, and everyone who comes to see the spectacular array is asked to donate what they can to local charities.

Last year, the lights raised a total of €15,000, a figure Tony is hopeful they can match this Christmas.

"We know times are tough for everybody, and no one who comes to see
the lights will be obliged to give anything. We're just hoping people will give a little bit to help for the three local charities we've picked. There'll be collection boxes at the front gate, but anyone who just wants to come along and have a look at the lights is more than welcome," said Tony.

This year, proceeds from the lights display will go to Milford Care Centre, the local branch of the Alzheimer's Society and the Brothers of Charity.

Next Friday at 7pm, Tony will be switching on this year's display, which will remain turned on each night between 6pm and 10.30pm until January 6.

"We managed to raise a lot last year, but how much we get is never a big issue," Tony said. "Even if we only raise €1,000 this year, it'll
be money that'll be going towards local charities who always need it."

To get to the Noonan house from the Abbeyfeale side, turn left from the N21 at Mountmahon industrial estate and continue on
straight.

From the Newcastle West side, pass the Devon Inn, take the first right and follow the arrows.
