A FORMER LIT student and West Clare-based musician has released a new single for Christmas called Snow that is warming hearts across the country.

Composer Sean O’Malley, 25, from Miltown Malbay, says the reaction to the track and music video has been great.

“The song itself is about that feeling you get when you see the first snowfall of the year,” he explained.

To accompany the song Sean wanted to shoot a video about a person walking home through snow, which he said could be anywhere in Ireland or the world.

“For one lady the song brought back a strong emotional memory and for others it reminded them of being in front of the fire during the winter season.”

The music video which was created during Storm Brian, involved a collaboration with local illustrator and it sees an animated of Sean making his way through the snow, in a cartoon world.

“I wanted to do something different that also felt warm, so I contacted Richie Peavoy to create a cartoon version of me walking through the snow.”

The video was shot in one take in Malbay Studios in Co Clare and sees the illustrator being filmed while animating Sean and the world around him.

For the Clare-based artist designing this video was a natural fit as he had taken part in a degree in Multimedia Programming Design, which he says helped him think “outside the box.”

Sean has been involved in music with his family since the age of three, and says “it was something I thought every family did,” he laughs.

The musician is hoping that this track will be a stepping stone to releasing his first EP. You can find Sean’s video on YouTube under Snow or on his Facebook page Sean O’Malley Music.
