THE ORGANISERS of an Easter Sunday charity fun run in Tournafulla in which almost 800 people took part have said that they were “absolutely stunned” by the level of support.

Brothers Mike and William Brosnahan were this week counting the money raised during the 5km run/walk event, the proceeds from which will be split between cystic fibrosis charity ‘TLC4CF’ and the dialysis unit at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle.

The organisers were initially expecting up to 300 people to take part, and were taken aback when they saw just how many people had come along.

“We were absolutely stunned, blown away”, said Mike. “We were snowed under with walkers. The walk was heading out at half 12, and at about quarter past the queue at the registration table was so big that William climbed up on the table, and just asked everyone to put their money in a donation bucket and head to the starting line”.

The event started and finished at the Tournafulla community hall, and took in a picturesque loop of the local West Limerick countryside. The proceeds from registration fees and bucket collections throughout the village are due to be donated to the two beneficial charities later this month.

Mike Brosnahan paid special tribute to the event’s main sponsors, The Devon Inn Hotel in Templeglantine and Feale Fit in Abbeyfeale, as well as the dozens of local businesses and residents that also contributed.

“There was a queue of people to put money into the donation buckets after the race. That sums it up for me. That’s the definition of community spirit,” William added.
