Tomás Ó Sé handed a one-month suspension

KERRY'S Tomás Ó Sé has been handed a one-month suspension for his first half challenge on Limerick's Stephen Kelly in last Sunday's Munster football championship final.

While it is of little consolation to Limerick the wing-back will now miss Kerry's All-Ireland quarter-final clash as he has accepted his ban. Had the referee taken action at the time Kerry would have been forced to play for over 50 minutes with just 14 players - Limerick were 0-7 to 0-4 ahead at the time of the inclident.

"Toms S has been notified by the CCCC that he has been charged with a Category 2 Offence (striking with the elbow). The proposed penalty is suspension for one month and the next game. Toms S is not seeking a hearing," read a brief statement on the Kerry GAA web site this Wednesday lunch time.

Earlier in the week, Toms S found an unlikely ally in Kelly. S tangled with Kelly on at least three occasions in Fitzgerald Stadium and the incidents were highlighted on television coverage by both TV3 and RTE last Sunday. It is understood that referee Pat Fox of Westmeath was asked to review an incident in the 19th minute when Toms S's elbow appeared to connect with Kelly as the speedy wing-forward scored Limerick's seventh point. However, Newcastle West's Kelly is not in favour of video evidence: "It's getting to the stage where every little incident is being highlighted now.

"In the championship the hits go in and you have to role with them. I feel that if referees didn't take any action at the time that everyone should just move on. Limerick aren't going to benefit if Toms S gets suspended and I wouldn't like to see him suspended.

"Once you cross the line it's championship pace and championship intensity and that's what happens. I was happy to shake his hand afterwards.

"Toms S might have been a bit reckless, but I wouldn't be in favour of going back over it.

"There are individual battles throughout the field and I don't think it's fair to see a player being hit with trial media."
