St Munchin's hold on for hard-earned win over Ardscoil

St. Munchin's College held on for a hard-earned win in atrocious conditions in Coonagh this Thursday.

St. Munchin's College held on for a hard-earned win in atrocious conditions in Coonagh this Thursday in the quarter-final first round of the Avonmore Munster Junior Rugby Schools cup. The win for the Corbally side followed victories for Crescent College Comprehensive and Castletroy College on Wednesday.

Munchin's played with the strong wind in the first half and helped by the elments and some good play by their pack edged into a 10-0 halftime lead. A try by hooker Shane Houlihan which was converted by outhalf Gerard O Shea, who later landed a penalty accounted for their scores.

In the second half Ard Scoil applied pressure and out-half Ronan McKenna scored a good try which he himself converted. Try as they might they could not get an equalising or winning score and St. Munchin's held on for victory.
