Corbally Utd 2 Janesboro 7

Despite losing a number of key personnel prior to last weekend’s transfer deadline, rumours of Janesboro’s demise are a bit premature.

When they went a goal behind to Corbally in yesterdays Premier League game you feared the worse but they showed huge character and a huge amount of skill as they turned the deficit into an impressive 7-2 win over the home side.

Veteran striker Conor Lynch led by example, scoring the winner’s first three goals. His strike partner Shane Clarke nabbed two and with new signing Declan Nash on the bench they looked spoilt for choice up front.

In the first minute Wayne O’Donovan picked out Shane Clarke but his effort was stopped on the line by Darren Hanly. At the other end Darren O’Sullivan weaved his way past two defenders but from an acute angle fired inches wide. Shane Clarke rattled the Corbally crossbar with a 35 yard free kick just minutes before Corbally opened the scoring. Fergal O’Connell collected the ball inside the Janesboro half, cut infield and hit a daisy cutter from twenty five yards that had the Corbally man celebrating before the ball even reached the goals. Janesboro responded well and while they escaped a penalty call for a challenge on Ian Dunworth they charged downfield where Shane Waters crossed and Dave Roche’s diving header smacked off the crossbar before being cleared to safety. Minutes later Conor Lynch beat the off side trap, rounded the keeper but fired into the side netting. Fifteen minutes from the break the scores were level when the home side failed to deal with a Wayne O’Donovan corner kick and Conor Lynch was on hand to poke the ball home.

Five minutes from the break Janesboro took the lead despite a brilliant tackle by Ronan Sherlock to deny Waters, the resulting corner was again not dealt with by the defence and Lynch was on hand to score his second.

When Lynch completed his hat trick two minutes after the restart it was game over and further strikes from Shane Clarke (2), Shane Waters and Aidan Hurley completed the rout. Darren Hanley scored a late consolation for Corbally who will be bitterly disappointed they did not build on a great start.

Ballynanty Rovers 0 Fairview Rgs 3

Dermot Finnan’s young charges continue on their merry way with an unlikely 3-0 win away to Ballynanty Rvs on Sunday. Craig Reddan

Darren Nolan raced over onto Eddie Mangan’s through ball to put Fairview on their way within five minutes.

Balla responded with a vengeance that had Fairview barricaded in their own half for the remainder of the first half. A missed penalty kick did not help Balla’s cause but they had enough chances to have wrapped up the tie.

To their credit Fairview soaked up the pressure and early in the second half tacked on a second when Craig Reddan fired in from 20 yards.

Balla introduced the returning Paul Quinn and Dermot Fitzgerald and upped the tempo but they were caught on the break when the speed of Nolan was instrumental in him netting a third goal.

FAI Junior Cup

Prospect Priory 3 Moyross 4

This game began in controversial circumstances with the home side claiming the pitch was unplayable. However it got the go ahead and Moyross needed a last minute extra time winner to see off the home side.

Ian Clancy, Dean Glasheen and Stephen Wallace scored for the home side but scores from Cyril Cleary (2), Alan Colbert and a late winner from Pat McCallig saw the Div 1A side through.

Geraldines 6 Hyde Rgs 1

As expected Premier side Geraldines proved too strong for Hyde Rgs at Rathurad on Sunday afternoon. Jeffery O’Dwyer fired Hyde into the lead before George Daffy equalised.

Daffy put Dines in front from a penalty on the stroke of half time but after the break the Premier side took control. Daffy completed a hat trick with Hannon, Christy O’Neill and Danny O’Neill also getting in on the act.
