Limerick footballers to meet Cork in 2013 Munster championship

The Limerick footballers have been handed a tough start to their Munster championship campaign in 2013 with a home tie against2010 All Ireland champions Cork.

Maurice Horan’s side were beaten by Clare in this year’s semi-final but they showed very good form in the Qualifiers, recording an extra-time win over Longford before losing to Kildare after extra time in the next game.

They last played Cork in the 2010 Qualifiers, when they again lost out after extra time. Next year’s meeting with Cork will mark the 10th anniversary of Limerick’s famous win over the Rebels in 2003. Limerick reached the Munster final that year but were beaten by Kerry in Killarney.

Should Limerick pull off another shock win, then they’d meet Clare in the semi-final. Kerry play Tipperary in the quarter-final on the other side of the draw with the winners meeting Waterford in the semi-final.

Elsewhere, in the other provincial championship draws, the stand-out fixture is the meeting of All Ireland champions Donegal and Tyrone in the Ulster quarter-final and the clash between beaten finalists Mayo and Galway in the Connacht quarter-final.
