ALMOST two months after sacking Pat Scully, Limerick FC are expected to announce Stuart Taylor as their new boss this week.

The 38-year-old Glasgow native has been a coach at the Scottish Division 1 side Hamilton Academic in recent seasons after enjoying a long playing career in Scottish football where his clubs included St Johnston, Ross County, Airdrie, Falkirk and Partick Thistle. He also spent one season playing with Drogheda Utd back in 2002-2003.

Limerick parted company with Pat Scully back in November only a couple of weeks after he had guided the club back to the Airtricity League Premier Division for the first time in 19 years.

A number of high-profile names were immediately linked with the position including Brian Kerr, Peter Taylor, Les Ferdinand, Kevin Kilbane, Jason McAteer and Roddy Collins. But the club first appeared to be close to securing former Hull City boss Phil Brown and later Kerr’s former assistant Johnny McDonald. However, they could’t agree personal terms and the search finally brought them to Scotland where Taylor was chosen. He is expected to be unveiled later in the week.

Limerick begin training next week ahead of the new season, where they will play their home games at Thomond Park. One of Taylor’s first jobs will be to finalise his squad for the coming season.
