St Munchin's and Crescent College were both beaten in the Munster Schools Junior Cup on Wednesday

ST MUNCHIN’S and Crescent College both lost to Cork opposition in the Munster Schools Junior Cup on Wednesday. But both teams have a second chance and will play in the quarter-finals on the week of February 28/29.

St Munchin’s were beaten 13-3 by a very strong CBC side in Musgrave Park while in Dooradoyle, Crescent went down 12-3 to PBC. It means that Crescent will play city rivals Castletroy College in the quarter-finals while Munchin’s must travel to Cork again - this time to take on PBC.

Ardscoil Ris play Glenstal in the remaining Round 1 game on Thursday with the winner of that game playing Rockwell and the loser travelling to Cork to play CBC.

Crescent were tied 0-0 with PBC at half time, and although they were under pressure early on, they came closest to scoring just before the break when Greg O’Sullivan went close to going over.

A Shane Eades penalty put them 3-0 up early in the second half but PBC took the lead when Greg O’Sullivan touched down and they sealed the win in injury time when David Fitzgerald got their second try.

In the game in Musgrave Park, St Munchin’s trailed 8-0 at the break but a Peter Meyer penalty got them back into contention after the restart. Despite a much-improved showing from the first half, they couldn’t get any closer and CBC sealed the win late on with another try.
