Munster player ratings from their 19-13 Heineken Cup loss to Saracens in Vicarage Road.

Felix Jones 6

Just when he was getting a run of games, his injury jinx strikes again. Will be hoping his latest setback won’t keep him out for long

Doug Howlett 8

Took his try very well and had a big workrate throughout. Always looking to get involved right to the very end

Casey Laulala 7

Came in for the injured Keith Earls and he put in a number of big hits over the case of the game. Never really threatened going forward

James Downey 7

Did very well for the Munster try with a good intercept and a lovely offload to Howlett. Unfortunate to give away the penalty that led to Northampton going six clear

Simon Zebo 9

Had to move to full-back after Jones went off but he had a fine game. Excellent under the high ball, kicked well and always a threat going forward

Ronan O’Gara 8

Will be hugely disappointed at his missed kicks in the second half but he kicked wonderfully from the hand and looked superior to the much-hyped Owen Farrell

Conor Murray 7

A very busy performance even if he’d a couple of wayward passes again. Now well established as Munster’s firsth choice

Wian du Preez 6

A late inclusion for Dave Kilcoyne, he was under pressure at times at scrum time on a couple of occasions before being replaced by Marcus Horan late in the game

Mike Sherry 8

One of his finest games in a Munster jersey and putting daylight between himself and Damien Varley. Throwing was good and also carried well

BJ Botha 7

Doesn’t seem to be the power he was last season as he’s targeted at scrum time but wasn’t punished to the same extent as he was a week earlier

Donncha O’Callaghan 7

A fine display as he was good in the lineout and also continued his proud record as one of Munster’s leading tacklers

Donnacha Ryan 7

Was used a lot by the Munster lineout in the opening half, a lineout that functioned well throughout against a fine Saracens unit

Dave O’Callaghan 7

Has looked very much at home at this level and even if he wasn’t as good as he was in Thomond Park he can be pleased with his display

Peter O’Mahony 7

Always there to do the dirty work and always on hand to make a carry. Replaced late on by Paddy Butler

James Coughlan 8

Another fine performance, just as we’ve come to expect. Tackled hard and made a couple of big carries

Luke O’Dea 6

Replaced the injured Felix Jones and while he struggled under the high ball for a while, he grew into the game as it went on

Marcus Horan 6

Drafted into the squad late on and saw action late in the game. On his last legs as a Munster player but still has something to offer

Paddy Butler and Stephen Archer were also introduced late on
