Open Season

COLERAINE Bowling Club held its annual opening of the Lodge Road green and unfurling of the club flag last Friday night.

There was a good turnout of club members with the Mayor of Coleraine, Cllr Maurice Bradley, also in attendance.

Cllr Bradley was accompanied by Alderman Maura Hickey and Alderman James McClure.

Also in attendance were Northern Ireland Provincial Bowling Association President Mr Maurice Smyth and Hon Secretary Tommy Smith, Mrs Majorie McColgan (Vice-President of the NIPWBA) and Mrs Nora Lafferty, CBC Ladies President.

Prior to the start of the evening, Des Hassan (CBC Hon Secretary), itroduced all present to the Coleraine club's President, Mr David Calvin, who welcomed everyone to the special event and thanked the members for electing him as their President.

He wished the Mens and Ladies teams a very happy and pleasant season's bowling.

He then invited his wife, Linda, to throw the first bowl on behalf od the Mens club, and Mrs Nora Lafferty did likewise for the Ladies club.

After the club flag was unfurled, everyone made their way indoors to receive a superb tea, which was prepared and served by the Coleraine Ladies.

Des Hassan then intorduced them once again to President David Calvin.

David welcomed the special guests and thanked them for coming along.

He also thanked the ladies for preparing and serving the tea.

After the Mayor of Coleraine, Cllr Maurice Bradley wished the club a good season's bowling and every success throughout.

NIPBA President Maurice Smyth brought the association'a good wishes to the club.

In conclusion David Calvin wished all the members good bowling, including Nora and the Ladies Club, as well as wishing Majorie McColgan every success as the NIPWBA Vice-President.
