Members of the winning syndicate celebrate after Go Home Hare won the Boylesports.com Derby at the Irish National Coursing Meeting in Clonmel

THE celebrations will last for a long time in Glin after Go Home Hare won the 2012 Boylesports.com Irish Derby this Wednesday afternoon at the National Coursing meeting in Clonmel’s Powerstown Park.

The remarkable story of Go Home Hare commenced at the national meeting in south county Tipperary last season when a 16-strong group from Glin formed the Mel syndicate decided to buy a greyhound with the dream to qualify for Clonmel in the future.

Little did they think that 12-months later they would leave with the winner of the blue riband event.

Trained up in Lifford, Co Donegal by Dessie Kerrigan, Go Home Hare firstly won the Derby in Glin and then the trial stake in East Donegal to book a place in Clonmel.

Such is the interest in the west Limerick village of Glin, that Go Home Hare even has his own facebook page, which was almost instantly updated with well wishers after the remarkable final victory at the Tipperary venue.

Many in west Limerick had backed their local favourite at big odds ahead of the meeting.

In the final just before 4.00 this Wednesday, Go Home Hare easily beat Blueview Sam.

Elsewhere at the meeting, Portinard Nine owned and trained by Maurice Collins of Abbeyfeale beat Class Attraction in the Champion Bitch Stakes final.

The Champions Stakes final was dominated by the Field’s of Patrickswell. Both Mare Field’s runners; Kyle King and Kyle Ranger qualified for the final. But Kyle King withdrew from on the advise of the vet and Kyle Ranger was declared the winner.
