Impressive Castletroy College enjoy big win in Munster Schools Senior Cup
Castletroy College made an impressive start to the Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Senior Cup, thanks to a 30-0 victory over Bandon Grammar in their first round tie at Clonakilty this Thursday.
2008 champions Castletroy, who host holders CBC, of Cork, on Tuesday, February 9, in their next outing, ran in four tries in all against their West Cork opponents.
The impressive Kevin Doyle bagged two tries, while Neil Cronin, brother of Irish international Sean, and Peter Murray, a member of the successful Senior Cup side from 2008, also crossed for touchdowns.
Castletroy led 11-0 at half time, with Padraig O'Connor landing an early penalty goal which was quickly followed by Doyle's opening try.
A drop goal from Padraig Quinn in the second quarter helped the Limerick side build their useful half-time lead.
The one way traffic continued in the second half as Castletroy quickly put the issue beyond doubt.
A fine piece of opportunism by Cronin resulted in the Limerick side's second try, with O'Connor successfully adding 'the extras.'
Centre Peter Murray crossed for his side's third try soon after, which was again converted by O'Connor.
Doyle struck for his second try in the final quarter as Castletroy recorded a resounding victory over the Cup's surprise packets.
