Castletroy College secured their place in the knockout stages of the Harty Cup thanks to a 2-9 to 1-9 win over De La Salle

CASTLETROY COLLEGE booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Harty Cup for the second year in succession thanks to a 2-9 to 1-9 win over De La Salle in Cashel on Wednesday afternoon.

Castletroy were in third place in Group 1 going into the game, one point behind the Waterford school and needed a win to advance to the knockout stages.

It didn’t look good for them after 20 minutes when they trailed 1-3 to 0-1 but an Ed Doyle goal brought them back into contention and they trailed 1-6 to 1-4 at the break.

They really turned on the style in the second half and a John Fox goal along with frees from Stephen Power and Tom Morrissey helped them to a three-point win.

The result sees them become the third Limerick school into the knockout stages after Ardscoil Ris and Doon CBS booked their places last week.

Castletroy will play one of the group winners, but they can’t come up against Ardscoil Ris again as they were in the same group.

The draw for the quarter-finals will be in early January with the games played shortly after.

Ardscoil Ris, Templemore CBS, Thurles CBS and Waterford Colleges are the group winners and will be drawn against the group runners up.

Castletroy, Blackwater CS, Doon CBS and Midleton CBS complete the quarter-final lineup. All Ireland champions Nenagh CBS are out after losing to Midleton on a scoreline of 0-15 to 11 on Wednesday.
