THE newly created West Limerick Colleges almost made the dream Corn Ui Mhuiri debut this Wednesday afternoon but lost 1-13 to 1-9 to defending champions, Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne (Dingle).

The Munster senior A colleges football championship round one game took place in Castleisland.

Their next game will be on November 7 against Clonmel and then they will finish their round robin series against North Clare Schools - two from the group will progress to the quarter-finals.

This Wednesday the Limerick side were slow starters against the champions as they adjusted to life in the top flight.

By half time the Kerry side were 0-10 to 1-2 clear.

Fr Caseys’s clubman James O’Connor was the Limerick goal scorer.

On the resumption, Chorca Dhuibhne went nine points clear.

But then came the fight back for the Limerick side, managed by teachers; Garrett Noonan (Rathkeale), David Keannelly (Abbeyfeale), Diarmuid O’Connell (Abbeyfeale) and Diarmuid Crowley (Newcastle West).

They kicked five successive points with James Guinea, Jack Breen and subs Cian Sheehan and Eamonn Prendiville finding the target.
