No election for Limerick GAA chair as Moloney withdraws
The Limerick football final was the centrepiece of the weekend GAA schedule
KILMALLOCK’S Val Moloney has withdrawn from the race to be the next chairman of Limerick GAA.
The current Kilmallock GAA chairman was one of just two candidates nominated ahead of the closing date earlier this month.
However he has confirmed to the County Board that he will not be allowing his name go forward at Annual Convention on December 16 in The Strand Hotel.
That means that Patrickswell’s Oliver Mann will succeed Liam Lenihan as the chairman of the County Board. Mann is a former club chairman and is the current vice-chairman of Limerick GAA.
Mann is one of three new officers to be elevated to the top table of Limerick GAA unopposed - Ahane’s Donal Morrissey will be the new treasurer, while Blackrock’s Pat Heffernan will be the new vice-chairman
As it stands there will still be four elections at the end of year meeting.
The only out-going officer being challenged is Irish Officer Micheal O’Riain - the Pallasgreen man has been challenged by former Limerick hurling captain Mark Foley (Adare).
Elsewhere, there are three people nominated for each of the positions of PRO (John Cregan, Eamonn Phelan and Mike Rea), assistant secretary (Seamus McNamara, Mick McDonnell and Mike Rea) and assistant treasurer (Johnny Brosnahan, Geraldine Neenan and Con Danagher).
