New Limerick GAA chairman Oliver Mann wants to see success on the pitch during his spell in charge.

Last Sunday Oliver Mann took up his third position on the Board but this time in the role he may have always wanted by becoming Chairman.

His rise to the top job has been fairly swift. The Patrickswell man said he was very honoured to fill such a role, “It’s a great day for me and my club and I thank them for the support they have given me down the years and while we face many challenges ahead I am looking forward to working with you.”

The new Chairman paid tribute to the officers leaving the County Board.

“Because of the five year rule we are losing people who have served the Board well. I want to pay tribute to Helen Crosse who, in her role as PRO, made a fine contribution. The same can be said of Pat Creed, Owen Hayes and Liam Lenihan. I wish them well, in particular Owen Hayes who has been ill, he worked very hard and I know we will not lose him as he will be Chairman of Feile na nGael next year”.

During a wide ranging address Mann covered many areas but he paid special mention to the fact that Limerick schools are doing very well in both hurling and football and also had some words for our county teams.

“I would hope that we would win Division 1B of the National League and that our focus would be to win the Munster Championship in the next couple of years.

“I would like to see the football development plan fast tracked and I hope we can win promotion from Division 4 of the National Football League”.

Going forward Oliver Mann called on people in Limerick GAA to respect each other, “We must have respect for each other at all levels, club and officials have to work together and it’s my wish that we do that in the year ahead. Obama said ‘yes we can’ I want you to say ‘yes we will’.”
