Four Limerick sides through to FAI Junior Cup last eight

THE Limerick District League made history on Sunday when four sides progressed into the last eight of the FAI Junior Cup.

Fairview Rangers saw off Crumlin United 1-0 at the Fairgreen thanks to a goal from Darren O'Sullivan while Regional United beat Limerick rivals Ballynanty Rovers 2-0 in Dooradoyle.

Pat Mullins' own goal saw Pike Rovers fall one-nil down to Springfield (Cork) at the Pike Field, but the District League champions recovered to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Pa Moloney, Davy Ryan and Wayne Colbert. Finally, Kilmallock beat Castleisland 1-0 at home with their goal coming courtesy of Benny Bourke mid-way through the first half.

The District League are guaranteed at least one team in the semi-finals - the quarter-final draw has pitted Fairview Rangers against Kilmallock. And, that game will take place next Sunday morning (11am) when Kilmallock travel to the Fairgreen.

Regional United are also favoured with home advantage against the last remaining Dublin side in the competition, Shangan Athletic - Dooradoyle will host that clash at 2.30pm on Sunday.

Finally, Pike Rovers will travel to take on St. Michael's in Tipperary Town (Sunday, 2.30pm) in their respective quarter-final. The last remaining quarter-final tie sees Clonmel Celtic take on dark horses Willow Park.
