Cussen handed lengthy ban
A LENGTHY 96-week ban has been handed down to a Monagea man following an incident in the west Limerick team's county junior A hurling championship semi-final win over St. Patrick's.
The lengthy suspension was imposed by Limerick's Competitions Control Committee on John Cussen following on from the referees report.
The Monagea man was charged with bringing the game into disrepute after he became involved with a player during a melee which broke out between players from both teams in the final quarter of the semi-final replay in Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock.
The game was stopped for a number of minutes while the player was treated. When order was restored the game was re-started by referee Denis Richardson.
Monagea ran out 3-12 to 1-6 winners and progressed to beat Staker Wallace in last weekend's county final.
Also arising out of the referee's report St. Patrick's Kenneth Dawson was banned for 12 weeks for abusive of the match official.
