Nathan Carter will take to the stage on Saturday, August 27
AFTER a gap of almost almost 30 years, the fields of Mungret will once again play host to a live music festival later this summer.
The Mungret Music Festival will feature performances by top acts Nathan Carter and Hermitage Green over the weekend of August 26/27.
Kieran O’Brien, chairman of the organising committee, said the idea behind the gig was to revive the tradition of a summer festival in Mungret while also raising funds for the ongoing development of Mungret St Paul’s GAA club.
“Years ago there was always a festival in Mungret with tournaments, amusements, a music marquee and so on, so we said we would try to bring it back,” he explained.
Local folk-rock outfit Hermitage Green will perform on the Friday night, with country star of the moment Carter taking to the stage on the Saturday.
The singer recently posted a video on Facebook, promising that it would be a “great gig”.
Mr O’Brien said they were delighted to have secured two such high profile acts for the festival.
The two outdoor gigs will take place on the Mungret St Paul’s pitch where there will also be bar facilities and other food/refreshment stalls. The gigs will be over 18s.
It will be a great way to finish off the summer - please God, we will have fine weather,” Mr O’Brien commented.
Early bird tickets remain on sale until the end of this month priced at €35 for the two gigs or €16.50 for Hermitage Green and €23 for Nathan Carter. They can be purchased online at www.mungretmusicfestival.com.
