The RTE ConTempo Quartet
THE renowned RTE ConTempo quartet will wrap up an arts office backed spring concert series with a free recital in the City Gallery of Art this Thursday.
The quartet, described by leading classical music magazine Strad as the 'Abba of classical music', will perform a special pre-Easter recital of works by Haydn this Thursday at 6pm.
“The Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to present this very special Easter concert during which Contempo will perform Haydn's 'Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross' and will be joined by actor Joan Sheehy,” said LCGA director-curator Una McCarthy.
“This will be a particularly timely concert with its strong associations with Easter. The series of concerts, a joint initiative with Limerick Arts Office, has been a wonderful success and has introduced a new audience to the Gallery," she added.
Arts officer Sheila Deegan said the spring concert series formed part of a strategy to work with partners "to increase access for citizens to high quality music and to provide opportunities for artists to perform".
"It also supports opportunities for cultural participation in the context of the 2020 European Capital of Culture bid," she added.
