Kilbehenny's Kellie makes final ten of song contest

In Apple of My Eye final 10: Limerick songwriter Kellie Lewis

LIMERICK songwriter Kellie Lewis has made it down to the final list of ten contestants of a popular national song contest.

Kellie, from Kilbehenny, is one of ten final contestants of the Le Crunch Apple of My Eye Song Contest, which has a €2,000 final prize.

The online competition has been running for several weeks with hundreds of entries from around the country, before it was whittled down to the final ten, with Kellie as Limerick's sole representative at the finals stage.

Kellie, who is well known for her recent appearances on RTE’s The Voice, where she wrote and recorded with Cranberries’ frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan, entered a version of Lean On by Major Lazer and DJ Snake into the competition, which is being backed by Le Crunch and Joe.ie.

Along with nine other semi-finalists from around Ireland, Kellie will record a video for her track with Joe.ie and the public will be asked to vote for her on the website, with five of the entries going through to a national final at Whelan’s in Dublin on March 9.

The contestants will go before a panel of industry judges including Shane Dunne, founder of Indiependence music festival and a UL graduate, Paddy McKenna of RTE and Niamh Farrell, lead singer of HamsandwicH.

Voting is open on Joe.ie until March 2.

Paddy McKenna said it was “a great opportunity for budding Irish artists to have their talents showcased”.
