AWARDS are nothing new for Limerick photographer Liam Burke.

And while his photojournalism has won numerous accolades over the years, this time Liam has been honoured for his work with Concern around the world over the past 25 years.

Co-founder of the Press 22 agency on Nicholas Street, Liam again had to go on his travels to pick up the Spirit of Concern Award presented to him in Chicago last week.

Mary Ellen Johnson, regional director, Concern Worldwide USA, said the award was presented to somebody who, in this case literally, “shines a light on the developing world”.

“Through their talent, vision and voice, they bring attention to the plight of those in need,” said Ms Johnson.

Liam, who lives in Parteen, has volunteered and travelled with Concern from Rwanda to Haiti, from Sri Lanka to Iraq and back over the past quarter century. And his pictures have been worth a thousand words as Concern raised millions for the world’s poor.
