A NEW web series made by Limerick based filmmakers to promote a Clare hotel popular with local holidaymakers is making waves online.
Say I DOolin is a five part web series promoting Hotel Doolin as a wedding and holiday location, produced by Limerick based filmmakers James Skerritt and Peadar Clancy in conjunction with hotel manager Donal Minihane - himself a Limerick man.
The five part drama, also featuring music by local music producer Paddy Mulcahy, who is known as Nubus, tells the tale of two strangers who fall for each other in Doolin.
The first two episodes have been uploaded to You Tube and are lighthearted in nature, a “boy meets girl story” using the hotel as a backdrop, according to co-writer Peadar Clancy, who lives in the city and stars alongside well known theatre actress Irene Kelleher, from Cork, in the series.
“It is essentially a promotional video but we have written a boy meets girl story to make it a little bit different, and there are a few twists and turns on the way,” explained Peadar, who worked with Skeritt on the short film Night of the Lonely Dead, which was also shot in the Clare countryside and brought the duo to Minihane’s attention.
Thematic events form a backdrop to the series, with the first episode marking the popular Micho Russell Weekend and the second the Doolin Writers’ Weekend.
“It was filmed over a period of five months because each episode showcases a different aspect of events in Doolin,” said Peadar. “For example the one today is about the Doolin Writers’ Weekend. There was a month or two between each event and the romance between the two characters develops.
“It is always the hotel at the centre of it, as well as making use of the amazing landscape around it,” added Peadar.
The hotel are offering daily prizes as part of the marketing campaign, with an overall prize of a wedding for 100 people on offer at the end of the series.
