Limerick’s Deric to highlight slum conditions on show

Limerick native and 3e weather presenter Deric Hartigan has made a documentary in which he comes face to face with the harsh reality of slum life in Kolkata, India.

Limerick native and 3e weather presenter Deric Hartigan has made a documentary in which he comes face to face with the harsh reality of slum life in Kolkata, India.

The programme, entitled The Real Slum Dogs; Journey of Hope, which will be screened at 9pm this Thursday on 3e, shows scenes of child labourers working in the city’s main dump at Howrah and the generational prostitution on Kolkata’s main highways.

It also highlights to the on-going rescue operations and educational projects provided by the Hope Foundation and charts the journey and lives of the forgotten children of Calcutta through the work of the charity organisation as they endeavour to rescue a generation from a life of drug use and sexual abuse.

Deric, 33, and from Inchmore, is the producer and presenter and the programme represents his first foray into the world of documentary making.
